Fernhill Community Centre

The opening of the Fernhill Community Centre came after a special community open day at the weekend which showcased a wide variety of activities including dance, fitness, music recitals, storytelling and street football to name but a few.

The centre was officially opened by the Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Eddie McAvoy. Councillor McAvoy said: "This is a fantastic facility for the people of Fernhill and surrounding area and together with the Community Regeneration Partnership's Fairer Scotland Fund, we have been able to fund and provide this brand new £5.5million centre for all to enjoy."

Fully funded by the council, together with the Community Regeneration Partnership's Fairer Scotland Fund, the work was carried out by contractor Barr Construction.

Paul Happell, project manager at Barr Construction, said: "This community centre has given us a great opportunity to be involved in such a prestigious project. Barr is proud to hand over this much-needed, facility which will be a great benefit to the community."

Specialized were contracted by Barr Construction to undertake the provision of the security services throughout the course of the project.
