Pedal for Scotland 2011

The 2011 freshnlo Pedal for Scotland saw over 14,000 cyclists of all ages and abilities take to the streets to enjoy a festival of cycling, now the 3rd largest mass participation event in Scotland.

They joined Graeme Obree, Aggie MacKenzie, Karen MacKenzie and Lorraine Kelly for the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland and Sky Ride Glasgow cycling events.

7250 took part in the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland 51 mile Challenge Ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh, and 900 in the 100 mile Sportive timed ride through the Southern Uplands, taking a longer route between Glasgow and Edinburgh for a serious challenge with both rides finishing at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium.

250 cyclists joined the brand new Edinburgh Family Ride which takes in the last 9 miles of the Challenge Ride from Kirkliston to Murrayfield on a traffic free route.

Over 6000 cyclists took part in Sky Ride Glasgow, which saw cyclists enjoy traffic free streets along the length of the Rider Clyde.

Specialized were contracted to provide the Security and Crowd Management for the Challenge Ride, Sportive Timed Ride, Edinburgh Family Ride and for the Glasgow Green section of the Sky Ride Glasgow.

Tom Clements, Specialized Director quotes "The event is a bit of a logistical nightmare with regard to the deployment and management of our staff.  We have staff positioned not only at the start and finish but throughout the entire length of both the 51 and 100 mile routes.  We put in a lot of planning and it paid off as our operation ran smoothly.".
